"The development of Heartland's Lincoln 101
Experience is a cost-effective solution for providing programs and
resources to as many people as possible," said Kristi Powell, site
supervisor for Heartland's Lincoln Center. "This program provides
opportunities for recent high school graduates who are looking for
an affordable college option or whose original college plans have
changed. Community members who have been out of work or who have
recently lost their jobs due to the current economic situation also
can benefit by enrolling at Heartland."The "Lincoln 101
Experience" at Heartland's Lincoln Center is a collection of
classes, beginning in fall 2009 and guaranteed to occur throughout
the year, that meet first-year general education requirements. After
completing their first year of classes entirely at the Lincoln
Center, students will be prepared to complete remaining associate
degree requirements at the center and at the college's main campus
in Normal before transferring to a four-year college or university.
"Being able to take all of your first-year classes at such a
nearby location helps us to meet the needs of our students while
saving them time and money," Powell added.
Heartland has been helping Logan County residents meet many of
their educational, occupational and personal needs since 1991 and
currently offers nearly 50 programs of study as well as numerous
support services.
