[July 23, 2009]  IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- Police said a 19-year-old man used cash stolen in a bank robbery to pay a bond for an outstanding warrant. Police charged the man with first-degree bank robbery after the Monday morning robbery of American Bank and Trust.

HardwareLt. Jim Steffen said the suspect "cased the joint out" by talking with a teller and leaving. A second man armed with a handgun then robbed the bank.

Police said the man used bank money to pay a bond for an outstanding theft charge at the Johnson County jail, then went shopping at a Wal-Mart and Gordmans department store.

Police spokesman Troy Kelsay said detectives arrested the man Monday night at his house and found more bank money.

The man remained Tuesday in the Johnson County Jail. Police are seeking other suspects.
