[June 05, 2009]  (AP)  The cloudy and wet weather over much of eastern United States was expected to ease on Friday.

A cold front was slowly moving to the Southeastern coast, bringing wet weather and thunderstorms from the Carolinas to Florida. But behind it to the north, skies were expected to clear.

More rain was forecast for the Plains, with showers and clouds yielding to thunderstorms, some possibly severe, into the evening. Storms were also possible in the Intermountain West.

In the Northwest, terrain along Oregon's border was to enhance thunderstorms and increase the potential for hail.

Relatively clear skies were expected for most of the West, except for possible showers and thunderstorms across in the southern Rockies and southern Plains.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Grayling, Mich., to a high of 107 degrees at Williams Gateway Airport, Ariz.
