[June 16, 2009]  The Humane Society of Logan County is planning its first "Ales for Tails" fundraiser at Chad's Blind on July 17, 5-9 p.m. Tickets will be $25 and include beer samples, snacks, a bag toss challenge and music by the band Shifting Gears. If you would like to purchase tickets, please call Sue Jones, 217-732-9422.


The Chestnut Fire and EMS will have a fried chicken dinner on Saturday, June 20, to help the fire and EMS departments purchase equipment. The location is the Chestnut Fire Station, 110 E. Olive St. in Chestnut. The hours are 4-6:30 p.m. and all are invited.


The Zion Lutheran School Challenge Committee sponsored the school's annual Swing Fore the Eagles golf event at North Greens Golf Course in Atlanta. The event included a $10,000 hole-in-one contest, sponsored by Prairie Years; $5,000 putting contest, sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans; and longest marshmallow drive contest. Other prizes were awarded to both men and women participants for longest drive, longest putt, straightest drive and closest to the pin. About 30 door prizes were given away in a drawing. A butterfly pork chop meal was enjoyed by all.

The grand opening of a new Logan County Habitat for Humanity Center will take place on Sunday, June 21, at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The new "HFH Center" is located near the northeast corner of the Logan County Fairgrounds, at 915 Woodlawn Road. The first Habitat for Humanity use of the HFH Center will be to sell produce. In the future the center will be expanded to serve other Habitat for Humanity purposes.

A benefit for Nick Tibbs will be held at the New Holland Firehouse on Saturday, June 20. This benefit is to help Nick Tibbs with medical expenses due to open heart surgery. A meal, 50/50 drawing and silent auction will begin at 2 p.m.


The YMCA Golf Clinic is back for two awesome sessions this summer! Session A registration deadline is fast approaching -- June 22. YMCA golf instructor Jeff Nelson will customize each young golfer's lessons to improve their individual skills. Participants entering kindergarten to eighth grade will enjoy the sport at one of Lincoln and Logan County's premier golf courses, the Lincoln Elks golf range. From the short game to the long, almost every aspect of the sport will be touched upon!
