Senate President John Cullerton said the governor and legislative
leaders have agreed to call the General Assembly back into session
Tuesday.
But he says that's the extent of the agreement. Republicans and
Democrats are still split over whether to raise taxes to help avoid
a possible $9.2 billion in budget cuts.
The Chicago Democrat calls it "unfortunate" that Republicans
won't support a tax increase even though the current budget expires
in less than two weeks.
Republicans say they want more action on long-term changes in
state spending before they'll consider raising taxes.
