[June 25, 2009] (AP) Severe weather was expected over the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions on Thursday.

Insurance Scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected along a front stretching from the Great Lakes to the mid- and lower Mississippi Valley. Some of the storms could be severe, with possible hail, damaging winds and heavy rain.

To the south, high temperatures to continue across the southern and central Plains, over the Mississippi Valley and Southeast and into the Mid-Atlantic States. Heat advisories were to remain in effect over the Mississippi Valley, with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.

In the Northeast, clearing skies and warming temperatures with highs in the upper 80s were forecast.

In the West, moist conditions were predicted across California, while cloudy skies and light rain were on tap for the Pacific Northwest. In the Southwest, high-level scattered showers and thunderstorms were to develop Thursday afternoon.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 30 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 108 degrees at Needles, Calif.
