The associated cold front will sweep through the Plains toward the Mississippi Valley. This feature will produce significant rain and some thunderstorms from northern Texas through Michigan. There is a slight chance of severe weather from western Oklahoma through southern Wisconsin.
Closer to the center of the storm system, rain will develop in the Dakotas and the rest of the Upper Midwest.
Along the eastern seaboard, lingering showers will gradually wane with precipitation in the Northeast diminishing last.
The incredible heat wave in the Southeast will continue through Saturday. Temperatures will climb well into the 90s, and heat indices will again rise into the triple digits. Heat Advisories are in effect from eastern Texas through southern Illinois.
A developing ridge of high pressure will bring a warming trend to much of the West. Temperatures in the Southwest and California will climb well into the triple digits.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 32 degrees at Truckee, Calif., to a high of 109 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
