[March 14, 2009] (AP) Wet weather was in store for the southeastern portion of the country on Saturday, while another Pacific storm was bearing down on the Northwest.

Heavy rain was forecast to fall from the Lower Mississippi Valley through the Mid-Atlantic, while New England and the Great Lakes were to be dry.

Relatively cool air was to plunge as far south as Texas, while even cooler air was forecast to be over the Great Lakes and Northeast.

Rain and high elevation snow was expected in Washington and Oregon, spreading southward into Northern California later Saturday and into Sunday.

Elsewhere, scattered rain and high elevation snow was to develop in the Southwest, mainly in Arizona and New Mexico.

Temperatures were to be in the 40s and 50s in the Northeast; 50s, 60s and 70s in the Southeast; 50s and 60s in the Plains; 40s and 50s in the Northwest; and 60s, 70s and 80s in the Southwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Friday ranged from a low of minus 14 degrees at Clayton Lake, Maine, to a high of 85 degrees at Fort Myers, Fla.
