[March 16, 2009]  The following recalls were issued by various federal and state agencies during the week ending March 14: 

RestaurantMAYTAG REFRIGERATORS 

Maytag Corp. is recalling Maytag®, Jenn-Air®, Amana®, Admiral®, Magic Chef®, Performa by Maytag® and Crosley® brand refrigerators sold nationwide from January 2001 to January 2004. An electrical failure in the relay, the component that turns on the refrigerator's compressor, can cause overheating and pose a serious fire hazard. 

The recall includes certain Maytag®, Jenn-Air®, Amana®, Admiral®, Magic Chef®, Performa by Maytag® and Crosley® brand side by side and top freezer refrigerators. The affected refrigerators were manufactured in black, bisque, white and stainless steel. A complete list of the model and serial numbers can be found at www.recalls.org

HAIR DRYERS 

Big Lots Stores, Inc. is recalling Style Elements Hair Dryers sold exclusively at Big Lots' stores nationwide from July 2008 to December 2008. The hair dryers are not equipped with an immersion protection device to prevent electrocution if the hair dryer falls into water. 

This recall involves Style Elements Cool Shot Turbo hair dryers. The hand-held dryers have a silver body and black handle. Model number 3615T is printed on a label near the on/off switch. 

Consumers should return the hair dryers to any Big Lots store for a full refund.

ICE SKATES 

Pronto Sports Inc. is recalling DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates sold at Dick's Sporting Goods stores nationwide from September 2008 to December 2008. Surface paint on the ice skates contains excessive levels of lead. 

The recalled youth adjustable boys ice skates are black with lime green and silver accents. "Glide" is printed on a rubber tag on the side of the skates. "DBX" and the DBX logo are located on the ice skate's ankle powerstrap, tongue, and heel.

ELECTRA BICYCLES 

Electra Bicycle Company LLC is recalling 2009 Model Electra Bicycles with Front Trays sold nationwide from October 2008 to February 2009. The front tray on the bicycle can come loose and contact the front tire, posing a fall hazard. 

This recall involves the following Electra 2009 model bicycles: Delivery 3i, Delivery 8D, Holiday 3i and Surf 3i. 

Consumers should contact an Electra Bicycle dealer for a free inspection and repair.

INFANT TOYS 

Infantino LLC is recalling Infant Toys sold nationwide from June 2007 to February 2009. The infant toys have blue metallic fabric that can detach from the toy, posing a choking hazard.

HOODED SWEATSHIRTS SOLD AT KOHL'S 

Seattle Cotton Works LLC is recalling Hooded sweatshirts sold exclusively at Kohl's Department Stores nationwide from January 2009 to February 2009. The sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood that can pose a strangulation hazard. 

The hooded, long sleeve sweatshirts have full-length zippers and drawstrings along the neck line. The products are sold under the Seattle Cotton Works brand in six different designs. The styles are set forth in the image below. The name, "Seattle Cotton Works" appears along the inside neck line. 

Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard or contact Seattle Cotton Works at (800) 533-8922 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to arrange for a full refund. More info at www.recalls.org

KIDDE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

Walter Kidde Portable Equipment Inc. is recalling Kidde XL Fire Extinguishers sold nationwide from October 2007 to April 2008. The pressurized cylinders in the recalled fire extinguishers could lose pressure and fail to operate. In the event of a fire, this failure could put a consumer and property at risk. 

This recall involves the Kidde XL Fire Extinguishers with model numbers FX340SC, FX340H, FX340GW, XL5MR, FX210R, FX340SC-2, FX210W, XL2.5TCZ-4, E-340-3 and with manufacture dates between October 2007 and April 2008. "Kidde" and the model number can be found on the label on the front of the extinguisher. The manufacture year is on the bottom of the extinguisher. If your extinguisher is one of the listed model numbers and is marked with the year 07 or 08, contact Kidde to determine if you have a recalled extinguisher. 

Consumers should immediately inspect the pressure gauge. If it points to the red zone, contact Kidde at (888) 345-4407 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to receive a free replacement extinguisher or visit www.kidde-fireextinguisher.com. More info at www.recalls.org

PROPANE GAS

Valero Marketing & Supply Co. is recalling Propane (LP) gas sold by various retailers from January 2008 to October 2008. An odorant is added to propane to help alert customers to a propane gas leak, but this propane might not have the recommended level of odorant. Failure to detect leaking gas can present a fire, explosion or thermal burn hazard.

Consumers should immediately contact their propane gas suppliers or retail locations where home propane tank or portable cylinders were filled for testing of the propane and to receive additional odorant as needed.

PAINTBALL MARKERS 

Tippmann Sports LLC is recalling Tippmann® A-5® Paintball Markers sold nationwide from May 2008 to February 2009. The end cap assembly on the rear of certain A-5® markers can break and eject during use, posing a risk of injury. 

This recall involves Tippmann A-5® markers with serial numbers 0409301 to 0422200. The serial number appears on the packaging accompanying each marker and is engraved on the left side of the marker near the front grip..

FISHING GAMES

Pure Fishing Inc. is recalling Shakespeare Casting Game and Fishing Kits sold nationwide from November 2008 to January 2009. The label on the fishing rod contains a surface coating containing high levels of lead. 

The recalled Shakespeare Casting Game and Fishing Kit consists of a red and blue rod and reel with red foam targets and hook. The label is found on the front of the reel and reads "Casting Fun".
