"I was hoping that Gov. Quinn would realize
that a tax increase during these tough economic times will hit
Illinois families," Bomke said. "We need to take a look at reforming
government before we ever talk about increasing taxes."
Over the previous six years, Illinois has seen
a decline in job growth and an increase in state spending.
"A new income tax increase will just put
Illinois further behind on job creation," Bomke said. "Illinois
needs to address its spending problem that has put us in our current
situation."
Under Quinn's proposed plan to increase income
taxes by up to 50 percent, the majority of Illinois residents would see a
tax increase.
"We have had out-of-control spending for the
past six years. Now the governor is coming to the people of Illinois
for a bailout," Bomke said. "In tough economic situations, people
often have to tighten their belts; the state of Illinois should
adopt that same mentality."
Quinn's proposed budget must be
formalized into legislation and pass both the Senate and
the House of Representatives.
