[March 19, 2009] (AP) The eastern U.S. was to see active weather as a cold front moves through, while the Pacific Northwest was to get some showers Thursday.

The cold front was expected to move from the Ohio River Valley and into the Southeast throughout the day, triggering moderate rainfall in the valley and into New England.

Scattered thunderstorms were possible on the western edge of the front over the Mississippi River Valley. New England was to see highs in the mid-40s, while highs in the South were to approach the 80s.

The Plains were to see mostly sunny skies on Thursday, with the northern Plains reaching into the mid-30s and the central and southern Plains cool, with highs in the mid-60s.

In the West, light rain was to fall in the Pacific Northwest, with snow at higher elevations. Meanwhile, California and the Southwest were to remain dry, with seasonable temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from a low of minus 10 degrees at Flag Island, Minn., to a high of 93 degrees at Yuma Marine Corps Air Station, Ariz.
