[March 20, 2009] (AP) A weak storm system was bearing down on the West Coast on Friday, while a cold front exiting the East Coast was expected to trigger scattered showers in the Mid-Atlantic.

Hardware Mixed precipitation and possible thunderstorms were forecast in the Pacific Northwest and the northern Intermountains, with snow showers predicted over the Cascades throughout the afternoon and evening. Showery weather was also expected to reach into areas of northern California. Chilly winds were to sweep in behind the system, lowering afternoon temperatures across the West Coast.

In the East, light to moderate scattered rain showers were expected along the Mid-Atlantic Coast, while showers and isolated thunderstorms were forecast for the southern tip of Florida. The remainder of the East was to see predominantly fair weather.

Elsewhere, pockets of light showers were forecast to fall across the central U.S. Isolated thunderstorms were expected to accompany shower activity over Oklahoma and Texas.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from a low of 1 degrees at International Falls, Minn., to a high of 93 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
