[March 27, 2009]  (AP)  More severe weather was expected Friday from a storm system moving through the southern Plains.

Strong thunderstorms were anticipated across the South from Texas to the Atlantic coast, but the worst weather was expected to strike the southern Mississippi Valley.

Storms were expected to gain intensity throughout the day, with the worst likely to occur in the afternoon and evening hours. Large hail, high winds and strong tornadoes were all possible.

The same storm system was expected to bring snow to the southern and central Plains.

A couple of feet of snow was forecast in Colorado east of the Rockies, some of which fell Thursday night. Heavy snow was also predicted over Kansas in the pre-dawn hours. Temperatures were expected to remain cool Friday.

In the West, clear skies and warm temperatures were expected. Temperatures were to be well above normal across California and Oregon, but cooler to the north.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 3 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 99 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
