[March 28, 2009]  BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- An upstate New York sandwich shop owner says plans to locate a slaughterhouse right next door will kill his business.

Bobby Horton runs a Subway franchise in Buffalo. Horton's shop is at the front of a large building. Two Brooklyn businessmen plan to open a slaughterhouse in the back.

Horton says slaughterhouse odors will chase away his customers and put him out of business.

Mustafa Jaarah and his father, Yousef, plan to use the space to butcher chickens, goats, lambs, rabbits and cows. The business will also include a butcher shop and farmer's market.

Mustasa Jaarah says smells won't be a problem and that the two businesses can both succeed.

The slaughterhouse has been given the go-ahead by zoning officials and is expected to be approved by the city's Common Council.
