[May 04, 2009]  (AP)  Numerous rain showers and scattered thunderstorms were expected Monday along a storm system running from the Gulf of Mexico across the Southeast to the Mid-Atlantic.

The heaviest precipitation was expected in the Mid-Atlantic, bringing flooding especially near creeks, streams and rivers. Stronger thunderstorms were to bring the risk of high winds and hail.

In the West, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms were expected through the Intermountain West, the Rockies and into the Plains. Snow was expected in the highest elevations.

By the afternoon, another round of showers and thunderstorms was to hit northern California and the Pacific Northwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 13 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont., to a high of 105 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
