Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, whose estimates generally exclude one-time items, predicted a profit of 56 cents per share. Revenue grew 2.1 percent to $2.91 billion from $2.84 billion to meet analysts' estimates. Subscriber-related revenue improved to $2.86 billion from $2.81 billion, while equipment sales and other revenue climbed to $32.3 million from $25.1 million. Last week rival DirecTV Group Inc., the nation's largest satellite TV provider, reported its first-quarter profit fell 46 percent mostly due to the recession as subscriber growth hit a four-year high.
