[May 26, 2009]  (AP)  Scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected from the Great Plains to East Coast on Tuesday as two weather systems combined.

In the Northeast, a chilly morning was expected with clear skies and low dew points overnight. Temperatures across northern New England were to drop down to 20s and 30s Tuesday morning with areas of frost. Rain was to start developing in the afternoon and evening, covering most of New England by Wednesday morning.

Dry and seasonable weather was expected across most of the West, except for some afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms in higher elevations. Areas of low clouds and fog would persist along the coast in the morning and at night.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of 2 degrees at Spincich Lake, Mich., to a high of 105 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
