Temperatures will drop into the 20s in some parts of the Upper Midwest. This trough of low pressure will not carry much moisture. Breezy conditions may accompany the cold front as it passes. Late in the day, some precipitation will move into New England and last into Sunday.
Meanwhile, heat will combine with moisture in the Southwest and Great Basin for scattered showers and thunderstorms from southern Oregon and Idaho through Colorado and New Mexico.
A low pressure system over Southern California will keep low coastal clouds hugging the coast, keeping temperatures mild in California. Warmer temperatures are expected in the rest of the Southwest and Great Basin.
The Northeast will rise into the 60s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 80s, 90s, and 100s, while the Southwest will see similar temperatures. The Northwest will rise into the 70s and 80s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Embarrass, Minn. to a high of 107 degrees at Laughlin, Nev.
