[November 06, 2009]  The Civil War monument committee will meet Monday evening at the Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society building to discuss what direction they should follow in restoring the old soldier monument destroyed by a December 2008 storm. The question is whether the new monument should be made of bronze or stone. You can cast your vote by e-mailing poll@lincolndailynews.com and in the subject line state stone or bronze. On Monday the results will be added and the files deleted, so you have no worry that your e-mail will end up on some mailing list.

Lincoln Special Olympics is having their second annual basketball tournament. Last year, the tournament brought 25 teams and over 400 people to the Lincoln Park District for the one-day event. This year people are coming from as far as Danville and Rushville to participate. Volunteers and spectators from the community are welcome to come to Rec Center on Saturday, Nov. 7. The first game starts at 8 a.m. and the last game will begin at 4 p.m.

The season will start on Saturday, Dec. 5, and run through February. All games will be played at the Indoor Sports Center. No admission will be charged.

This Saturday, Nov. 7, at Kroger's in Lincoln the local Daisy (kindergarten and first grade) and Brownie (second grade) Girl Scouts will host a food drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to "Stomp out hunger in Logan County." They are "Learning to Lead" this year, and this is their first big project. The Scouts are hoping to lead others to help those who are not as fortunate as we are!

United Methodist Men will have a pancake and sausage breakfast Saturday, Nov. 14, 7 a.m.-noon. The breakfast will be at First United Methodist Church, 110 Broadway. It's all-you-can-eat sausage, pancakes and drink. Adults $6, children under 12, $3. Proceeds to United Methodist Men missions.
