[November 13, 2009]  The YMCA sports party is coming soon! First to fifth grade! Come one, come all. Sports games of all sorts. Pizza, snacks, drinks and fun. Register by Nov. 18. The party is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. It's $10 at registration for members and $12 for nonmembers. There is a $3 fee increase after the registration date.

Family Reading Night

The library's annual Family Reading Night will be on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Once again there will be a performance by the Readers Theatre group, followed by stories from our "reader leaders." For accurate planning, please call 732-5732 to register.'


"Read to an Animal"

The library and the Logan County Humane Society invite children ages 6 and up to "Read to an Animal" on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Annex. Bring your own story or choose from the books we have selected. The visiting animals are adoptable.


Justin Broom, Zion Lutheran School eighth-grader, has been selected as the Zion Lutheran October Student of the Month. Justin's ZLS activities include honor roll, speech team, band, student council president, spelling bee, math bowl, choir chimes, choir and school plays. He is a member of Zion Lutheran Church. His church and community activities include youth group and helping at VBS. Justin enjoys riding his bike, using the computer, playing video games and playing tennis.

Justin's parents are Scott and Rhonda Broom of Lincoln.

Duane and Marjory Smalley have been married for 60 years and invite their friends to join in the celebration. The couple were wed Nov. 8, 1949, in Paducah, Ky. They are the parents of Daniel (wife Heidi) Smalley. They have three grandchildren: Luke, Ben and Libby.

There will be a reception this Sunday at Chad's Blind at 1230 Fifth St. in Lincoln from 3 to 5 p.m.
