A new modular home was put in place in Mount Pulaski by Gary Bobell and his wife, who lost two houses during the recent tornado: their house on the Elkhart blacktop with the address 1105 700th St., Lincoln, and the 833 11250th St., Lincoln, house out by Salt Creek -- which was rented by Bill Lahr and his wife, Margaret.
Gary said that this modular home was on view at the recent Du Quoin State Fair and measures 38 by 60, not including the garage. It is a two-piece house hauled by two trailers, each over 60 feet in length and 19 feet wide.
The units were set in place and appeared to be an exact fit. The roof was later raised after the shingles were put on. The trusses of the raised roofs were hinged so as to swing into place when the roofs were raised. Additional wood was brought along to span these trusses, and then they were covered with roofing and shingled. All of this, except for the garage and basement, was accomplished in one day. The company also put in the basement and will construct the adjoining garage. The crane is a 90-ton weight limit and came from St. Louis. The project was something that made for a full day of watching by local residents.
