Police in Endicott, just west of Binghamton, say they encountered the gator after being dispatched to a home Tuesday afternoon.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation seized the gator and hauled it away.
Police charged a 23-year-old man with criminal possession of a weapon and possessing a wild animal as a pet, a violation of state environmental conservation law.
A 39-year-old woman was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Both were held in the village police lockup awaiting arraignment.
