[October 14, 2009]  ST. CHARLES (AP) -- Authorities said a car-dealership repo man was being held in the Kane County Jail for allegedly trying to trick police into doing his job for him.

East Dundee Police Detective Michael Seyller said Monday that a 47-year-old man was arrested last week after he tried to dupe police into tracking down a vehicle he was trying to repossess.

Seyller said the suspect has been charged with filing a false police report, falsely reporting a vehicle theft and phone harassment.

The man reportedly told police last week that a vehicle he had repossessed had been stolen, possibly by its owners.

A day later, a Carpentersville police officer spotted the vehicle and pulled it over. But after talking with the owner, police learned that the man had never repossessed the vehicle.
