[October 16, 2009]  WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Treasury Department says it is freezing the assets of a German national and al-Qaida member believed to be operating on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Citing investigations by German authorities, the department said Thursday that evidence shows Bekkay Harrach has been with al-Qaida since March 2007 and received military training at an al-Qaida camp. The department said he has also made threats relating to terrorist activities and suicide attacks.

In May, Harrach was added to a U.N. list of individuals connected to al-Qaida, Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban.
