Jose United Methodist, still time to vote on statue, Cumberland

The
annual bazaar and turkey supper at San Jose United Methodist
Church will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4, in the church Fellowship
Hall, 600 S. First St., San Jose. The church is
handicapped-accessible and the event is open to the public.

At 3:30 p.m., bazaar booths will open,
consisting of a Country Store with homemade pies, baked goods, and
breads; homemade candies such as caramels, peanut brittle, peanut
butter balls, fudge and more; Rada cutlery; cookbooks; kitchen items
and greeting cards. Also featured are hand-woven table runners,
placemats and rugs; Christmas cards; bookmarks featuring our
sanctuary windows; and, NEW this year, hand-woven purses for
children and adults -- all handcrafted by our local artisans.
At 4 p.m. a delicious meal of roast turkey, mashed potatoes and
gravy, dressing, corn and green beans, salad, dessert, and drinks
will be served. Carryouts will also be available at the same
time. Advance tickets for dine-in or carryout may be purchased from
Jeane and Rachel Woll, 309-247-3272, or at the door.
San Jose is located on U.S. Route 136, eight miles west of
Interstate 155 or two miles east of Illinois Route 29. All proceeds
support UMW mission projects.

There
is still time to give your advisory vote on whether the
replacement statue for the Civil War soldier should be made of
bronze or stone. All you have to do is send an e-mail to

and in the subject line type stone or bronze. Here is
a chance to give your opinion on something that will stand for
perhaps centuries, so take a minute and tell the committee what you
think.
Claude
Cole Pancake Breakfast will be Saturday, Oct. 31, from 7 a.m. to
1 p.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 110 Broadway.
The event will feature all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage and drink.
Donations: adults $5, children $3. There will also be a bake sale.
Proceeds to church and community projects.

Halloween
party -- On Friday, Oct. 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. the YMCA
will host a Halloween party at the YMCA Activity Center for children
in first to fifth grade. There will be fun with games and
activities, plus pizza and drinks. Dress in your scariest or
wackiest costumes to win great prizes. Register by Oct. 27 for this
"spooktacular" party.
Don't
forget, Saturday is the Harvest of Talents for World Hunger. The
public is invited -- all ages. There will be great food, handcrafted
items for sale, music, indoor dining, outdoor snacks, entertainment,
live auction, something for everyone, with ALL proceeds going to
world hunger relief. Handicapped-accessible. No admission fee; free

The event takes place at the Lincoln Christian
Church, 204 N. McLean St. Doors open at 7 a.m.; auction at 2 p.m.
The
Lincoln Jaycees Haunted House is still operating with rave reviews
from those who have visited. "Your Final Judgment" is
located at 390 Limit St. in Lincoln, next to Modern Brake and CILCO.
There are still several dates available to be scared: Oct. 23, 24,
28, 29, 30, 31. The hours of operation are Friday and Saturday 7-11
p.m. (Halloween 7 p.m.–midnight!), Wednesday and Thursday 7-10 p.m.
Admission is $6 ($1 off with canned goods donation). There also are
kids' matinees on Saturdays, Oct. 24 and 31, 2-4 p.m., with lights
on. Trick-or-treat on the 31st. Admission is $2.
