The
St. John United Church of Christ Youth Group in Lincoln will
honor the veterans of Logan County on Sunday, Nov. 8. This will be
the eighth year the group has invited the veterans currently living
in Logan County, in addition to inviting any veterans they are aware
of who were deployed from Logan County for any war or conflict. This
evening is for veterans and their spouse or guest only and will be
at the American Legion in Lincoln, 1740 Fifth St.
|
The evening begins with the youth
serving a light meal at 5 o'clock and continues with an evening of
fellowship, door prizes, refreshments and dancing. The variety of
music from 5 to 8 p.m. will be provided by the Don Smith Band this
year. During a special time in the evening the band will play a
tribute to each branch of the U.S. services. The youth sponsors
are Jonathan and Tami Pagel.
The St. John Youth Group invites any veteran who did not get a
personal invitation to let the group know of your service by
calling Tonita Reifsteck, 217-732-9796, or the church, 217-732-6957,
to make a reservation, preferably by Nov. 1.
Local
blood drives need your help with blood donations for patients in
area hospitals. The Central Illinois Community Blood Center
is offering several opportunities to donate blood throughout Logan
County:
Monday, Nov. 2 -- Lincoln College Student Center, 300 Keokuk; 9
a.m.-3 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 2 -- Lincoln Masonic Center, 2022 N. Kickapoo;

The
Mount Pulaski Rotary Club is kicking off its annual fresh
Florida citrus sale for Christmas. The club has conducted the sale
for more than 30 years. Proceeds will be used for the club's annual
high school scholarships and for other local nonprofit functions
such as the library's summer reading program. A case of fresh navel
oranges, grapefruit or a mix is $25 and can be delivered to your
door. A half-case costs only $12.50. A local Rotarian may contact
you or you can place an order by calling Doug Johnson, 792-5911, or

Got a good piece of news, information or
something that we can all brag about? If you do, e-mail Mike and let
us tell everyone about it. Plus you can win cash. Every submission,
whether we use it or not, will get your name in the Close Up grab
bag. At the end of the month we will draw a name and someone will
get $25 just for dropping us an e-mail. If you wish, we will be
happy to donate your winnings to the organization of your choice.
