Gov. Pat Quinn invites trick-or-treaters to the mansion

[October 30, 2009]  SPRINGFIELD -- Gov. Pat Quinn will host trick-or-treaters at the governor's mansion on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. Trick-or-treaters who are 12 years old and younger and accompanied by an adult are encouraged to stop by the mansion. They will receive candy donated by Hershey, Mars and Wrigley and can pick up "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" collection boxes.

"Carrying a UNICEF collection box this Halloween while trick-or-treating is a simple way that our children can help less-fortunate children around the world," the governor said. "I encourage every child in Illinois to participate in this important program and make a difference this Halloween."

The Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF program allows children who are trick-or-treating to collect money to help UNICEF provide food, water, medicine and education for needy children in more than 150 countries. Trick-or-treaters can also pick up UNICEF collection boxes at Pier 1 Imports, Hallmark and Baskin-Robbins retail locations throughout Illinois.

For more than 60 years, UNICEF has been the world's leading international children's organization. Last year alone, children, schools and communities raised more than $4.4 million during Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. The program has raised more than $140 million to date.
