Vachel Lindsay Home program Saturday features 'The Chinese Nightingale'

[September 10, 2009]  SPRINGFIELD -- Vachel Lindsay's poem "The Chinese Nightingale" will be the theme of a special program at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site, 603 S. Fifth St. in Springfield.

RestaurantThe program will be presented by Marge Deffenbaugh, assisted by Fred Floreth, Kathy Reed and Marlene Marshall, and will feature narrative and visuals relating to Lindsay's Oriental-themed writings. The program will be complemented by an exhibit of original Oriental items from the Lindsay Family Collections. It is the latest in a continuing series at the home exploring Lindsay the man, writer, artist and performer.

Limited seating is available. Refreshments and tours of the Lindsay Home will follow the program.

This presentation in the "Poets in the Parlor" series is sponsored by the Vachel Lindsay Association and the Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site.

The Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site is the birthplace and longtime residence of poet, author and artist Nicholas Vachel Lindsay, 1879-1931. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for free public tours.
