Lincoln presentations by 2 renowned authors coming up at presidential library and museum

[September 17, 2009]  SPRINGFIELD -- The author of the new, best-selling "A Lincoln: A Biography" will have a book discussion and signing Monday at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, and a renowned military author will present "Lincoln as Commander in Chief" at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum's Union Theater.

InsuranceRonald C. White Jr. is the author of "A. Lincoln: A Biography," which is a New York Times, Washington Post and Los Angeles Times best-seller. His Sept. 21 program is free, but advance reservations are required and may be made by calling 217-558-8934.

White is also the author of "Lincoln's Greatest Speech: The Second Inaugural," a New York Times Notable Book of 2002 and a Washington Post and San Francisco Chronicle best-seller, and "The Eloquent President: A Portrait of Lincoln Through His Words," a Los Angeles Times best-seller and a selection of the Book-of-the-Month Club and the History Book Club. White has lectured at the White House and has been interviewed on the "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer."    

Cole C. Kingseed will present the Sept. 25 program, "Lincoln as Commander in Chief."  Paid reservations are required for this Jim Edgar Lecture Series event presented by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation.

Kingseed is the author of the New York Times best-seller "Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters," a personal history of the men from Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division whose battle exploits were featured in the television miniseries "Band of Brothers." Kingseed has also written "From Omaha Beach to Dawson's Ridge: The Combat Journal of Captain Joe Dawson" (2005); "Old Glory Stories: American Combat Leadership in World War II" (2006); "The American Civil War" (2004); and "Eisenhower and the Suez Crisis of 1956" (1995).

Kingseed's 30-year military career included commands at the platoon, company and battalion level, culminating in his tenure as chief of military history at the United States Military Academy at West Point. 

Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for veterans and $5 for students. Foundation members at the Circuit Rider level and above are entitled to two complimentary tickets to the annual Jim Edgar Lecture. Additional tickets and all other member levels will receive a 10 percent ticket event discount. Tickets may be reserved by calling 217-558-8934 or visiting www.presidentlincoln.org.
