Capt. Adam H. Bogardus is possibly one of the best-known
trapshooters in history. He traveled with the Buffalo Bill Wild West
Show as a sharpshooter, was named the Champion Wing Shot of the
World in 1876 and is even credited with inventing a trap thrower
designed to throw glass targets. He is buried in Elkhart. A
descendent of Bogardus, Bob McCue, will portray the captain at the
opening ceremony.
There will be two different events and three classes available:
muzzleloaders, old-style shotgun and modern.
The entry fee for the 10-bird "meat shoot" will be $3.50 per
person. The first-place winner will receive steaks, chicken and
roast beef. Bacon and sausage will be presented to the person in
second place. The 25-bird derby winners will receive trophies.
