[April 20, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Maura Tierney is making a return to TV after dropping out of a series last summer as she battled breast cancer, the FX network said Wednesday.

Tierney, best known for her longtime role on the NBC drama "ER," will resume her guest spot as the love interest of Denis Leary's firefighter character on the FX action drama "Rescue Me," the cable network said.

The 45-year-old actress is filming four episodes scheduled to air in 2011, the series' seventh and final season.

Tierney "has finished treatment and is doing very well and is happy to move forward with the next phase of her life," said her spokeswoman, Christina Papadopoulos.

She left the cast of NBC's prospective new series "Parenthood" in August after filming the pilot. Lauren Graham then joined the series, which premiered in February.
