Octuplets mom avoids foreclosure on home

[April 20, 2010]  LA HABRA, Calif. (AP) -- Octuplets mother Nayda Suleman has reached an agreement with her mortgage holder that will allow her and her 14 children to stay in their Southern California home for at least six months.

Suleman was facing foreclosure after she missed a March 10 deadline for a $450,000 balloon payment.

Her lawyer, Jeff Czech, said Wednesday that Suleman's mortgage holder, Amer Haddadin, has agreed to a six-month extension.

Haddadin says the agreement calls for Suleman to continue making monthly payments of $4,000 until the balloon payment is due.

Suleman's father, Ed Doud, bought the $565,000 home in the Orange County city of La Habra last year. Terms of the purchase called for a $130,000 down payment, the monthly payments and the final balloon payment.
