Community Action and Kiwanis of Lincoln host annual summer day camp

[April 29, 2010]  Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois and Kiwanis of Lincoln will once again host a summer day camp for low-income children. The children are scheduled to enjoy a variety of fun-filled and educational activities June 14-18, coordinated by Community Action Staff and funded by Kiwanis, local businesses and individuals in Lincoln.

InsuranceThe camp is open to children age 6-10 who live in Lincoln.

In past years, the children have enjoyed theme-filled activities including "Meeting City Leaders Day," "Historic Walk in Abe Lincoln's Shoes Day," "Splashdown Water Park Day" and "Bowl Your Head Off Day" at Logan Lanes.

All meals and drinks are provided for the children, as well as prizes, games, crafts and other fun activities.

Darla Buss, co-coordinator and Community Action staff member, said: "The children always have a great time at summer day camp. There are plenty of fun and educational activities for the kids to enjoy."

Interested individuals should fill out an application by contacting Cyndi Campbell at 217-732-2159, ext. 225, by June 9.

Community Action is a private, nonprofit organization. Community Action serves low-income residents in many capacities, including a food pantry, utility assistance, weatherization services, senior nutrition and transportation services, in-home care, the Foster Grandparent volunteer program, Community Service Block Grant small-business loans, Early Head Start, and Head Start.
