[August 05, 2010]  (AP)  Active weather was forecast to move into the East on Thursday as a frontal boundary moved into the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and the Ozarks.

Clusters of showers and thunderstorms with periodic locally heavy rainfall would develop near the boundary through the evening. Strong to damaging winds may also accompany storms across the Tennessee Valley and the central Appalachians into the northern Mid-Atlantic.

To the south of the frontal boundary in the East, dangerously hot weather conditions would persist across much of the southern Plains and the Southeast. More heat advisories and excessive heat warnings were expected over these regions as daytime temperatures and heat indexes would push well past the century mark. Along with these baking hot conditions, areas of scattered showers and thunderstorms would continue near the Gulf Coast.

In the West, monsoon moisture would trigger more scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Four Corners. Meanwhile, cool, below-normal temperatures would persist across the West Coast states.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 32 degrees at Truckee, Calif., to a high of 118 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
