The
Decatur Dragons are
inviting Lincoln girls to try out for their traveling teams.
This is a newer organization looking to put together a very
competitive program and expanding this year to include 10U, 12U and
14U girls' fastpitch travel teams. They want to let the girls in
Lincoln know of this option for anyone interested.

The organization is unique in that all girls who try out are
evaluated by individuals who have coached or are still coaching at
higher levels of softball (high school, college, etc.). The girls
are scored based on their performance of various fundamental skills,
and that is how teams are chosen. This is a very effective and
efficient selection process as these evaluators have nothing to do
with the teams, in that they don't coach them, nor do they have a
child on them. This ensures the selection process is made by each
girl's skills rather than where they live or go to school. The teams
want to foster good, sound, competitive fastpitch softball and want
to reach out to girls from all over central Illinois in order to put
together the very best of teams.
Tryouts will be in Decatur at the Graceland Complex on West Division
Street. The dates and times are:
-
14U: Aug. 14-15, 1-4
p.m.
-
12U: Aug. 14-15, 10
a.m.-noon
-
10U: Aug. 21-22, 1-4 p.m.
The
Together for Lincoln group is having a pork chop dinner with
pork chop, baked beans, corn and a roll for $8. The event will be at
the IGA parking lot on Thursday, Aug. 12. Pickup will be 4-7 p.m.
All proceeds are to support Together for Lincoln projects.
Tickets will be available at all participating churches or call
671-6093.
