[August 12, 2010]  Heartland Community College has announced an exciting new segment for its Lincoln curriculum. Starting this semester, Heartland will offer an Office Basics series of classes.

The curriculum totals 20 semester hours, and upon conclusion of the courses, the student will receive a certificate of completion. This program allows a student to effectively work in office administration and support positions and can help a student be ready for entry into the work force.

The courses include:

  • Management of records

  • Business communication

  • Accounting

  • Customer relations

  • Computers and computer software packages

  • Keyboarding

  • Document formatting

  • Preparing to enter the work force

Kristy Powell at Heartland explained that these courses are flexible with an open learning format. Students can take the entire semester to complete classes or finish sooner at their own pace. The open learning format means there is one-on-one personal tutoring at flexible times to meet the schedule of a student who has job or family time requirements. The open learning program allows a student to learn in Heartland’s new state-of-the-art learning lab when convenient to them and the instructor rather than needing to follow structured class times. Powell also said that the computer course can be taken online for convenience.

The courses are open entry, and although normal classes begin next week, a student can begin this curriculum from then until the 12th week of the semester, but the course entered must be completed by the end of the semester.
