InsuranceA cold front had stalled over the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states, while the remnants of a tropical depression would continue pushing moisture onshore from the northern Gulf of Mexico. The system had a high, 60 percent, chance of reorganizing into a tropical storm as atmospheric conditions were slightly conducive for further development. This would result in widespread scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southeastern U.S. from eastern Texas to Georgia and the Carolinas. Hot and humid conditions were expected to persist, with highs in the 90s.

Meanwhile to the west, a strong low pressure system had developed off the central and southern Rockies and would continue pushing a front through the Plains and Mississippi River Valley. The system would gain moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and kick up scattered showers and thunderstorms. Many of these storms were likely to turn severe as the system has a history of producing damaging winds, heavy rainfall, hail and even tornadoes. Rainfall totals along this front would range from a half-inch to an inch, with up to 2 inches likely in areas of severe storm development.

Out West, a ridge of high pressure was expected to bring more warm conditions in the inland areas. Dry and windy conditions would bring favorable conditions for rapid fire spread over the valleys of California as well as the Pacific Northwest. Coastal regions would remain cool and cloudy as a trough lingered offshore.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of 33 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 118 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
