Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez said one of the most
important changes is that prosecutors can now use wiretaps in their
investigations. Quinn signed the law Friday.
The law also now gives children under 18 immunity from
prosecution for prostitution. Alvarez says this will ensure
officials treat children in the sex trade like the victims they are
and get help for them.
Supporters of the law likened human trafficking and the sex trade
to modern-day slavery.
