InsuranceFair and dry conditions were forecast to persist over the northeastern quadrant of the nation as a large area of high pressure remained parked over the Mid-Atlantic. The system would keep areas from the Great Lakes through New England and the Mid-Atlantic under mostly sunny skies with daytime highs in the 80s and 90s.

To the south, unsettled weather would continue throughout portions of the Southeast. Flow associated with the aforementioned high pressure system would usher tropical moisture across the Gulf Coast and continue showers and thunderstorms during the day. Periods of heavy rainfall along the central Gulf Coast under flash flood watches and warnings. Additional heavy rainfall and thunderstorms were expected across the southern tip of the Florida Peninsula.

Meanwhile, in the upper Midwest, a low pressure trough would lift across the Dakotas with thunderstorms. A rich plume of tropical moisture and daytime heating would enhance scattered thunderstorms through the afternoon and create chances of severe weather activity across the eastern Dakotas, western Minnesota and Nebraska.

In the West, a gradual warming trend would begin over California as deep low pressure exited eastward. The warming trend was expected to persist through much of the workweek. Meanwhile, to the north, a Pacific front would bring chances of showers to northern California and the Pacific Northwest as it approached the coast. Elsewhere, chances of showers and thunderstorms would persist across the Four Corners.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 24 degrees at Chemult, Ore., to a high of 104 degrees at Bullhead City, Ariz.
