[December 01, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- "The Scottsboro Boys," a musical based on the real story of nine black teenagers framed for rape and wrongfully put on death row, will close Dec. 12 on Broadway.

HardwareProducers said Tuesday the show, directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, will have played 49 performances and 29 previews. It marks the final collaboration of songwriters John Kander and Fred Ebb; Ebb died in 2004.

"The Scottsboro Boys," a hit earlier this year off-Broadway, frames the 1930s-era story as a minstrel show and then immediately subverts it by having an all-black cast, except for the master of ceremonies, John Cullum.

Other Broadway shows that have recently announced closings include "Elling," "La Bete" and "A Life in the Theatre."
