[December 01, 2010]  (AP)  The storm system that pounded the central U.S. on Tuesday was forecast to continue northeastward and dump more precipitation across the East on Wednesday. Steady and heavier precipitation was predicted to fall over the Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic.

Two to 3 inches of rainfall was expected, with isolated amounts of 4 to 6 inches, leading to minor to moderate flooding. The cold front associated with the storm should be exiting the East Coast by Wednesday evening, so expect rain showers and thunderstorms tapering off over the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. However, steady rain was to continue in the Northeast into Thursday.

On the northwest side of the storm system, light to isolated moderate snow showers were expected over parts of the Great Lakes, with lake-effect snow showers over the southern and eastern shores of the lakes through Thursday.

In the midsection of the nation, a front was expected to bring some light snow showers to the northern Plains.

Out West, the Pacific system that moved ashore Tuesday will stall over the Northwest, producing light rain and higher-elevation snow from the Pacific Northwest and northern California eastward to parts of the northern and central Rockies. High winds could lead to blowing and drifting snow. Snow amounts were to range from 4 to 8 inches.
