Ben Sherwood named ABC News president

[December 04, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- ABC has appointed former "Good Morning America" executive producer Ben Sherwood as it news division president.

InsuranceSherwood replaces David Westin, who announced earlier in the fall that he would be stepping down after 14 years.

Besides his work as a journalist, Sherwood is an author who wrote the novel "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud." He is a founder of a website that is a resource for people surviving in the face of adversity.

Sherwood started at ABC News in 1989 as a producer for the "Primetime Live" newsmagazine. He also has worked at NBC News.
