Sixteen-year-old Isatu Kanu (EYE'-sa-too ka-NOO') says she missed her bus on Friday and decided that following the tracks would be the fastest way to get Olentangy (OH'-lehn-tan-jee) Orange High School north of Columbus.
She told The Columbus Dispatch on Sunday that she heard the Norfolk Southern train behind her but thought it was moving slowly and thought she would be safe.
The girl got clipped by the train and wound up with a concussion, a neck fracture and 38 leg stitches. She says she blacked out at the moment of impact and remembers waking up with the engineer standing over her.
Doctors expect Isatu to make a full recovery.
