Plan ahead and keep tabs on the weather for this weekend

Winter storm likely Saturday night

[December 08, 2010]  The main weather story for central Illinois is the potential for a winter storm over the area this weekend. The timing of the event is becoming better defined, with initial rain changing to snow Saturday afternoon. The snow will then become heavy at times before decreasing early Sunday. While it appears that most of the area will see some snow accumulation, it is too early to predict exactly where the heaviest snow will fall. Several inches of snow will be possible where the heavy snow band sets up.

Cold Canadian air will then plunge southward through the Midwest Sunday and Monday, along with strong northwest winds. Any snow that falls will likely be blowing and drifting, possibly causing travel problems.

Stay informed on the latest weather forecasts for this weekend and early next week.
