The
Humane Society of Logan County had a hugely successful sale
of holiday cookie trays and baked goods. Profits were $3,900 and the
donation box contained $536. |
Thanks to Lynn White, who chaired the
event, and all the volunteers for their hard work and enthusiasm
that made it so successful.
Animal Protective League of Springfield is spaying or
neutering cats for $25 during the month of January. The Humane
Society of Logan County's next spay and neuter transport to the
Animal Protective League of Springfield will be Monday, Jan. 10. The
$25 fee applies to this transport only. Call 217-737-4042 now to
make arrangements for your dog or cat to be spayed or neutered in
January. The fee for all dogs except pit bulls and pit bull mixes is
$50. The service is free for pits. All animals must have proof of a
rabies shot, or a shot must be given at the time of spaying or
neutering. Other services are available at a reduced cost.

Come in to see the many Christmas books and videos displayed for
children at the Lincoln Public Library. Choose from among
picture books and chapter books, fiction and nonfiction, religious
and secular. Share stories about the many joys of the Christmas
holiday with your children.
Also, stop by the circulation desk in the Annex to see the
display of miniature library buildings. They have been collected
over the years and graciously loaned to the library by one of the
employees.

Don't forget the Lincoln Park District's Holiday Home Contest.
If you have decorated the outside of your home for Christmas, the
park district encourages you to enter the contest. You may register
at the park district's front office or online at
www.lincolnparkdistrict.com.
Go to the "Contact
Us" page, fill out the contact information, and be sure to
provide your address and a brief description. Your decorations will
be judged on originality, complexity and overall theme. The judging
will be done after 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17.
Prizes will be sponsored by the park district. First place will
receive a one-year full-access family membership. Second place will
be given a six-month family circuit membership. The third-place
winner will get a three-month family circuit membership.
The park district plans to publish the winners on their website
and in local news publications. This will allow others in the
community a heads-up on where the best displays are.
Got
a good piece of news, information or something that we can all brag
about? If you do, e-mail Mike and let us tell everyone about it.
Plus you can win cash. Every submission, whether we use it or not,
will get your name in the Close Up grab bag. At the end of the month
we will draw a name and someone will get $25 just for dropping us an
e-mail. If you wish, we will be happy to donate your winnings to the
organization of your choice.
