Snow, sleet and freezing rain in tonight's forecast

Send a link to a friend

[December 15, 2010]  A weather disturbance across the Rockies will shift eastward into the Plains today and across the mid-Mississippi Valley tonight and Thursday morning, bringing with it a wintry mix of precipitation.

Light snow will be possible this afternoon, with a steadier snowfall expected tonight, especially along and north of Interstate 74. Farther south, a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain can be expected, with more freezing rain and sleet than snow as you head south of Interstate 72.

Snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches can be expected along and north of Interstate 74, with locally higher amounts possible by Thursday morning. Farther south, ice accumulations of less than a quarter of an inch can be expected overnight and into Thursday morning, certainly enough to affect the tail end of this evening's rush hour and tomorrow morning's drive in to work or school.
