He said that everyone
has an opportunity to vote Lincoln, Ill., as one of America's
favorite cities by going to
Readersdigest.com and placing their vote. Snyder said that he
has already been to the website and it is quite interesting to see
the results climb up.
He joked that in the typical Illinois fashion of voting early and
voting often, he placed three votes for our city.
He also noted that there are monetary benefits if the city of
Lincoln is awarded the title of one of the top 100 cities in
America.
Below is a complete copy of the letter received from Reader's
Digest:
Greetings!
Does your town need
help bringing back fireworks on the 4th of July, fixing park benches
or promoting tourism? Now imagine winning economic stimulus - at no
cost to your town.
In 2011, Reader's
Digest will focus on what makes our country great with a
far-reaching, high-impact grass roots campaign called WE HEAR YOU
AMERICA, including multiple editorial features based on our "Best of
America" annual cover story. And it begins with cities like yours.
Reader's Digest is
awarding more than $5 Million in funds and promotional support to
100 towns and cities across the U.S. to promote things like tourism,
civic works, job growth, and economic development - however we can
help make our great American hometowns even better places to live.
As our magazine has
done since its launch in 1922, WE HEAR YOU AMERICA puts the
spotlight completely on people. It will collect stories of how
everyday citizens and spirited leaders alike, from the small towns
in the heartland to the metropolis on the coasts, are working to
meet the challenges facing our nation daily. We're literally
bringing it door-to-door, with a 100-city tour, and editorially to
our 35 million-reader strong monthly magazine and website, from
February to May 2011.
Lots of towns will
win, and yours could be one of them. You could be the one on the
front page of the local paper receiving the giant check, holding the
copy of the magazine coverage of your town.

Here's how to
participate in just a few easy steps:
1) Encourage
everyone in your community to "cheer"/vote for your town today at
readersdigest.com. The towns/cities

35 million Reader's Digest fans. Any size town has a shot, IF its
residents participate. So spread the word any way you can: email,
Facebook, Twitter, local press, community centers, town hall
meetings, billboards, yard signs, fliers, phone calls, etc.
2) Update your
town's entry page often at
readersdigest.com with photos and stories describing what makes
your town Best in America, and what you would want to bring money
and attention into your area.
3) Remind your
constituents to vote regularly! Not only will they help your
efforts, they'll be automatically entered to win a family road trip
in a brand new car.
