Sopha Hughes signs for LCU

[February 17, 2010]  Sopha Hughes from Oblong recently signed a letter of intent to enroll at Lincoln Christian University and participate in women's basketball and volleyball.

Hughes is a 5-foot-11 center in basketball and a middle hitter in volleyball. She has played volleyball for four years and basketball for two years at Oblong High School, where she received many awards, including "Most Improved Basketball Player." In addition she ran on the track team for four years.

A member of the National Honor Society, on the honor roll four years, she was also chosen as the 2009 homecoming queen.

In addition to her scholastic activities, Hughes is very active in her church and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Basketball coach Amanda Bowman is very happy to have Hughes and expects her to be very involved in the basketball program as soon as she is on campus. Volleyball coach Jason Farr says that Hughes will be a great addition to his team and will fit in well with his returning players and other recruits.
