Mother Nature may be brewing a one-two punch over the weekend and heading into the new week

[February 19, 2010]  With spring seed catalogs arriving daily in the mail and the last few days full of sunshine and milder temperatures, don't be lulled into thinking that winter is over yet. The National Weather Service is tracking the potential for two winter storms that could bring an accumulation of snow, or snow and ice, beginning later Friday and stretching into next week. The greater threat is anticipated through the night on Sunday.

Currently the NWS says:

"Two storm systems to affect the area over the next several days.

"The first weather system late today and tonight will produce light snow accumulations... around 1 inch.

"The second storm for late Sunday into Monday morning has the potential to produce a significant amount of snow, sleet and possibly some freezing rain over parts of central, east-central and southeast Illinois late Sunday through Monday morning."
