One
of the real positives of our new format is that every section
can now support its own Top Picture.
|
In the past we had only 24 or 25
opportunities for a top picture and that made it hard, not only on
our staff but on reader submissions, since space was limited. Over
the past year we venture we took 10,000 photos and received hundreds
more from all of you, and we want to get as many as possible out
there for our readership to enjoy.
With the new format, we have the chance to bring four times as
many special pictures to our readers, and we hope you all will take
advantage of this increase in availability.
You will note that so far, every Sports page now has a Top
Picture. Sometimes a major sports story commands we use a
complementary picture, but now there is much more opportunity for
local sports pictures to be used.
In Leisure and Community the same thing holds true, and although
we will fill the space with available pictures from our AP sources,
we always will use local pictures over national ones.
We can't promise we will use everyone's pictures. No more than we
can all the pictures our staff with eight cameras in the field
submit.
But now the odds are four times better that your great picture
can be shared with the world.
We are excited about this opportunity to not only share your
great news but your great pictures as well, so remember to send
those special pictures with a brief caption to
mikefak@lincolndailynews.com.
We look forward to helping you spread your good news, not only in
words but also with pictures.

Goodbye Google.
As of yesterday we no longer have the Google network of ads in
our publication. To be frank, the ads were distracting and sometimes
annoying. As some of the ads were in competition with local
businesses, which we always promote, the decision was made to end
our affiliation with Google.

place on Friday, Feb. 19, at the Knights of Columbus. Watch for the
first Draw 4 Carroll (replaces Lucky 6) drawing in April.
HSLC's annual chili luncheon was on Saturday,
Jan. 16, at Friendship Manor. The net from the lunch was $1,040. The
Humane Society of Logan County sold $100 worth of merchandise and
received $76 in donations. Special thanks to Marsha Brown, Cherrilyn
and Lyle Johnson for chairing a very successful event. The success
would not have been possible without all the hardworking volunteers
who cooked, baked, served, cleaned up and visited with the people
who came out to support HSLC. HSLC could not make a difference for
the animals without all the volunteers.
HSLC's annual rummage sale will be on Saturday,
March 13, at the Lincoln Woman's Club from 7 a.m. until noon. As you
start to clean out closets, garages, under beds, etc. this winter,
remember that all those unwanted items could be someone else's
treasure. SAVE THEM FOR HSLC. Drop-off will be Friday, March 12,
from 4 until 8 p.m.
Got a good piece of news, information or
something that we can all brag about? If you do, e-mail Mike and let
us tell everyone about it. Plus you can win cash. Every submission,
whether we use it or not, will get your name in the Close Up grab
bag. At the end of the month we will draw a name and someone will
get $25 just for dropping us an e-mail. If you wish, we will be
happy to donate your winnings to the organization of your choice.
